Live Nation-Ticketmaster merger to get antitrust ruling

Live Nation Entertainment Inc and Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc merger scheduled for second antitrust ruling.

28 April 2010

The merger of Live Nation Entertainment Inc and Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc is scheduled for an antitrust ruling.

The ruling, which will be the second concerning this particular deal, could happen as early as next week, according to Bloomberg.

Already approved in the US, the merger will face the scrutiny of the Competition Commission here in the UK.

A second review is having to be undertaken by the regulatory body after inadequacies were revealed in the initial review procedure.

Robert Bell, a London-based antitrust lawyer with the firm Speechly Bircham LLC, told the news provider that the makeup of the new operation was of particular interest.

He said: "They are operating as a merged company and it would be a little difficult to police [if the agency rejected the deal]. I think they'll adopt a middle road approach."

The merger of Live Nation Entertainment Inc and Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc has created the world's largest concert promoter.
