Sporting merger could be 'lift Bradford needs'

Could two of Bradford's biggest sporting teams be set to merge?

30 April 2010

The merger of two of Bradford's biggest sporting teams could be the morale-boosting lift that the city apparently needs.

That is according to Julian Rhodes, Bradford FC joint-chairman, who believes that the football club should merge with the Bradford Bulls, the Super League team.

He suggests that the pooling of resources could allow for the sides to move forward with better effect, particularly if the merger resulted in a new shared ground being built.

Mr Rhodes said: "Bradford needs a lift as a city, everyone can see that and sport could be the catalyst for that positive change - but only if there's some imaginative thinking that can provide us with a true vision.

"The two clubs sharing one stadium has always been worth investigating."

His comments follow the news that Bradford City Council has been forced to cancel the development of a £75 million sporting village.
