Mergers and acquisitions dominating tech sector

Negotiation skills are in high demand in the tech sector, which is witnessing a string of high-profile mergers and acquisitions.

Mergers and acquisitions activity is picking up in the technology sector, with a raft of deals currently in negotiations.

That is according to Reuters, which notes that cash-rich hardware and software companies are looking to position themselves for economic recovery and growth in new markets.

Among the deals currently in negotiation are Hewlett Packard's proposed acquisition of smartphone specialist Palm and SAP AG's move to snap up database firm Sybase.

Speaking to the news provider, Paul Parker, head of global mergers and acquisition at Barclays Capital, explained that all of the top technology firms are currently involved in negotiations.

"Tech deals have been on the rise thanks to cash build-up at many of the big companies.

"There is transformational activity being worked on or announced already in every sector."

Last week, mobile giants Orange and T-Mobile announced details of the merger between the two firms, which has resulted in the creation of a new brand name Everything Everywhere.
