Asda sales negotiations 'led to creation of new jobs'
The takeover of Netto has enabled Asda to create new job opportunities.
Sales negotiations that led to Asda acquiring and converting Netto stores are partly to thank for the creation of 7,500 new work opportunities.
According the retailer, the takeover of the discount supermarket - combined with an expansion of its home shopping service and the opening of more stores - will allow it to offer the vacancies next year, with 3,000 employment opportunities already available on its website.
"The Netto acquisition is set to add around one million sq ft [of retail space] and create an Asda Supermarkets division of around 170 stores," a statement from the chain noted.
Converted stores are expected to re-open in time for Christmas next year, following the completion of a conversion programme that gets under way early in 2011.
Earlier this week, chief executive of Irish bookmaker Paddy Power Patrick Kennedy suggested the betting agency would seek opportunities to expand the business through joint ventures, following the announcement it is to create 1,400 new jobs.
