Firefighters strike negotiations a success as walkouts are called off
Bonfire night strike called off
London-based firefighters have cancelled their planned 48-hour walkout following successful strike negotiations.
Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) had voted in favour of striking over bonfire night in a long-running dispute over working hours.
However, they have now decided to call off the industrial action amid fears over the standard of cover provided by a private firm and concerns over public safety.
The London Fire Brigade has confirmed that the strikes would no longer ahead and that FBU bosses had agreed to meet the Resolution Advisory Panel later this month to help find a resolution to the dispute.
London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson said: "My intention has always been to reach an agreement on proposals that will make Londoners safer and firefighters safer.
"Going to an independently-chaired body to help us seek a way forward is a step in the right direction."
