Nestle considers entering sale negotiations with Yoplait
Swiss firm considers joint bid for Yoplait with European dairy group Lactalis
Swiss confectionary firm Nestle is considering entering sales negotiations with French yoghurt manufacturer Yoplait, according to reports.
The French newspaper Le Figaro has claimed that Nestle is weighing up the merits of a joint bid for Yoplait with European dairy group Lactalis.
The paper, citing several sources, said: "The Swiss giant has two options. The favoured option is an alliance with Lactalis."
The alternative would be for the Swiss firm to make a solo bid.
Yoplait has been subject to takeover speculation following the announcement that private equity firm and co-owner PAI Partners was looking to sell its 50 per cent share in the French company.
In addition to the interest from Nestle and Lactalis, rival food giants General Mills and Asian food groups are expected to table bids for Yoplait.
Yoplait is the second-largest dairy manufacturer in the world, behind French rival Danone.
