Croydon Council could be set for strike negotiations
Unite fail to rule out walkouts
Croydon Council could have to prepare for strike negotiations after unions failed to rule out the possibility of walkouts over the public spending cuts.
Around 100 council workers staged a protest outside the Town Hall earlier this week following the council's plans to change working conditions, reports The Croydon Advertiser.
In wake of the raft of austerity measures, the local authority has proposed reducing overtime and sick pay and limiting annual leave, as well as a previously announced wage freeze.
Kevin Simmonds, Croydon branch secretary of Unite, understood that cuts would have to be made but claimed they will go too far.
He told the news provider: "Our membership in Croydon has had enough and is not going to accept these changes.
"If the council continues in the way it is going it is not leaving us any choice but to go down the road of industrial action."
