LFB to hold last-ditch strike negotiations to avoid Bonfire Night walkouts
London firefighers set to strike on 5th November
London Fire Brigade (LFB) could be set to hold last-ditch strike negotiations after staff voted in favour of walkouts on Bonfire Night.
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has announced that firefighters based in the capital will strike from the morning of 5th November until 7th November.
Workers are currently unhappy with proposed changes to their rota system, with those refusing to agree to the alterations reportedly set to lose their jobs.
"We do not want to take this action but we have no choice," FBU general secretary Matt Wrack said.
"The alternative is to allow London's firefighters to become doormats for their employers to walk on."
Mr Wrack called for the LFB to meet with union officials and negotiate a resolution to the long-running dispute.
"Show a little respect for your firefighters. Meet their representatives and hammer out a compromise with us, instead of trying to get your way by bullying," he added.
The proposed industrial action has been deemed "reckless" by Fire Service minister Bob Neil.
