Business negotiation classes offer 'practical experience'

Negotiators should aim to regularly practice their negotiation techniques

Firms should consider sending its employees to business negotiation classes as they offer candidates practical experience, it has been claimed.

Neil Williamson, a negotiation expert writing for, expressed his belief that tutorials can offer budding negotiators the best way to learn their trade.

He said: "One of the great things about taking a negotiation class is that you can learn in a hands-on manner and you can ask plenty of questions. Many people learn best this way and it generally works very well."

Mr Williamson added that negotiators should always aim to practice any skills and techniques they have learned during classes.

Candidates are advised to sit down with family and friends, who will act as the other side, and enter practice talks to hone their negotiation strategy.

"Developing effective negotiation techniques can go a long way towards helping you save money and doing as well as you can in business," Mr Williamson said.
