Mergers and acquisitions consultants in demand as deal figures rise
Global M&A market worth over £1bn so far this year
Global mergers and acquisitions (M&A) consultants could be in demand as deal activity continues to rise.
Thomson Reuters has revealed that the international M&A market is worth $1,678 billion (£1.068 billion) so far this year, an increase of 21 per cent compared to the same period last year.
During the third quarter of 2010, deals activity totalled $599 billion, a rise of 35.6 percent from a year ago and the strongest quarterly growth since the third quarter of 2008.
The energy sector drove figures up significantly, with $349 billion of deals announced in the first nine months of 2010.
Cary Kochman, head of mergers for the Americas at UBS, told the news provider: "Late in the first quarter and in the second quarter, we experienced some very significant market volatility due to the European debt situation.
"Clearly, some activity which was put on hold reappeared in the third quarter."
Despite the positive results, European M&A was down 15 per cent on the previous quarter at $144 billon.
