Negotiators should practice business negotiations in everyday scenarios, according to an expert.

Negotiations can be a part of daily life, as consumers try to haggle down the price of goods or services in an attempt to get a better deal.

For example, many mobile phone customers attempt to strike a deal with operators to obtain a cheaper call plan for their loyal custom.

Don Hutson, co-author of The One Minute Negotiator, expressed his belief that many people get defensive in these situations but they can provide useful training for budding negotiators.

He told Investor's Business Daily: "It's not about confrontation as much as it is about learning the skills that can work for you.

"As you develop confidence and competence, you engage more often and save thousands of dollars."

Mr Hutson added that firms should be able to adapt their approach to talks to react to the other side's actions.
