Cisco aims to acquire Inlet Technologies
Cisco is looking to acquire Inlet Technologies, a provider of digital media processing platforms.
Cisco has announced it has been in sales negotiations with Inlet Technologies to acquire the company for around $95 million (£59 million).
Inlet Technologies specialises in adaptive bit rate (ABR) digital media processing platforms, which change the quality of video streams depending on the conditions of the network they are being transmitted over.
Cisco said the acquisition will aid its efforts to enable customers to offer video streams on any device via its Videoscape platform. It is hoped the transaction will be completed by mid-2011.
"Service and content providers have a tremendous opportunity to deliver exciting video experiences as media consumption increases across mobile, desktop and smart devices," remarked Enrique Rodriguez, senior vice-president and general manager of Cisco's Service Provider Video Technology Group.
Established in 1984, NASDAQ-listed Cisco offers a range of network and computing products and services and reported $10.75 billion of sales for the first quarter of 2011.
