Negotiation strategies could aid University dispute
Strike action might be prevented with negotiation strategies.
Negotiation strategies may prove useful as members of The University and Colleges Union (UCU) at the University of West England (UWE) have announced they will be taking strike action on Thursday (February 10th) in a row over restructure plans.
Proposals would see all university readers, professors and principal lecturers made to reapply for their jobs as the university looks to cut back on senior posts by 25 per cent.
Nova Gresham, UCU regional official, stated management is trying to rush through proposals that could impact on the jobs of hundreds of staff.
"Had they been prepared to pause their plans and allow time for both sides to sit down together and make sure the process was fair and transparent a deal may well have been reached by now," he said.
UCU is the largest post-school union in the world and states it is a force working for educators and education that employers and the government cannot ignore.
