Strike negotiations for Heinz
Strike negotiations might be of assistance for Heinz.
Strike negotiations may have proven useful in the prevention of a planned strike at the Heinz factory near Wigan.
Workers were set to down tools today (January 5th), but talks between the Unite union and management on Tuesday resulted in a new offer from the company.
A fresh ballot will now take place between union members over the offer, which if rejected will result in another strike on January 11th.
Under the terms of the new deal, workers would receive a 3.5 per cent rise in the first year plus a £200 one-off payment and a 3.4 per cecnt increase in the second year.
Jennie Formby, Unite national officer for food and drink, said: "Heinz has tabled a new offer and the senior stewards unanimously agree that we must give our members an opportunity to vote on this."
Strike negotiations may also have recently proved useful for NUJ members from the Brighton Argus.
