Merger and acquisition consultants 'busy in Q1'
There was a hike in the number of merger and acquisitions in the first quarter of 2011.
A number of merger and acquisition consultants have been busy in the first quarter of 2011 in the UK.
This is because figures from the Office for National Statistics found that some £18.3 billion - which equated to 48 different transactions - was spent on acquisitions abroad by UK companies.
It represents a massive increase from the £3.8 billion recorded in the previous three-month period and the body stated: "This is the highest reported value for outward investment since quarter four [of] 2007."
International business negotiations will have been taking place throughout this period, as outlay on acquisitions in the UK by foreign firms was £6.4 billion.
On top of this, there was £1.2 billion invested in deals between organisations who are both in Britain.
Last month, a report in the Financial Times said that a purchasing company has to take into account the retirement plans of firms it is buying.
