UCU calls for return to strike negotiations
The University and College Union has appealed for a return to strike negotiations.
The University and College Union (UCU) has called on university employers to "get back round the table" following a period of strikes.
Members of the union in higher education establishments across the UK have been protesting against changes to the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) pension with walk-outs that began last week.
Workers in Scotland commenced industrial action last Thursday (March 17th) and the disruption came to a close yesterday as educators from a number of universities and colleges in the UK took part strikes.
UCU general secretary Sally Hunt claimed yesterday's efforts had been "quite magnificent".
"We have no interest in their reasons for refusing to talk to us so far, we just want them to change their mind and start talking to us now. This dispute can go nowhere unless we start talking," she said.
Earlier in the week, Ms Hunt claimed she shared the frustration of students who are annoyed by the "intransigence" of university bosses.
