Signet 'involved in sales negotiations'

Signet is involved in sales negotiations for its UK arm, it has been reported.

Jewellery specialist Signet has been involved in sales negotiations regarding its UK arm.

This is according to a report from the Sunday Telegraph, which alleged that Lazard has been called upon to explore potential interest in the firm.

The publication asserts that at least two organisations have been approached in regard to the deal, in an effort to find out what kind of price the wing of the business could achieve.

It was predicted that, in the event of a sale, Signet's UK arm could go for more than £400 million.

However, the Telegraph noted that the company's results from last year showed a slump in its British outlets.

In an effort to combat this, the firm has been attempting to stimulate sales in the UK by rolling out new products, staff training programmes and enhancing its customer relationship offerings.

Reuters recently reported that at least seven major private equity firms have been in competition to acquire Swedish company Securitas direct.
