France Telecom to link-up with SLR in business deal
The two telecommunication firms are linking up to rollout high-speed broadband.
France Telecom has agreed a deal with fellow telecommunications firm SLR to deploy high-speed fibre broadband networks.
The arrangement will see the cables rolled out to areas of France not currently catered for.
Significant business negotiations may have taken place in order to finalise the terms of the initiative, which will benefit 11 million households.
Some 9.8 million of these are areas where both companies have redundant deployment projects and France Telecom will look after 7.5 million of them, while SLR will take over the remaining 2.3 million.
According to the former, the agreement "solidifies the two groups' deployment goals" and measures have been put in place to ensure there is no duplication of services.
As well as this, both parties have agreed to complete the projects within five years of them starting.
It comes after France Telecom set up a venture capital fund alongside Publicis to finance digital economy projects in the future.
