Italian football season to start after union bargaining
Successful strike negotiations have been concluded in Italy.
Successful union bargaining means that the top-flight Italian football season will get underway on Friday (September 9th).
An agreement between the Lega Serie A and the Italian Players' Union (IPU) means a temporary resolution has been finalised between the two parties, so no further strikes will take place throughout 2011-12, the Press Association reports.
The new Serie A campaign was scheduled to get underway last month, but was postponed due to a failure to agree a collective bargaining deal following the expiration of the previous agreement in the summer of 2010.
However, potential further industrial action will not now occur until June 2012 at the earliest after officials from the league, the IPU and the Italian football federation put pen to paper.
Damiano Tomassi - a former Italian international midfielder and current IPU president, commented: "We are happy that the players will play. The Italian players have acted in a good manner throughout the negotiations."
