Medco bought by Express Scripts
Express Scripts has acquired Medco.
Express Scripts has completed its purchase of Medco, which has created the leading healthcare services firm in the US.
Merger and acquisition consultants could have been used in the deal, which was valued at $29.1 billion (£18.15 billion) and should reduce the costs of medical access for the public, enhance patient health and improve people's adherence to their prescriptions.
George Paz, chief executive officer and chairman of Express Scripts, said the deal is "exactly what the country needs right now".
He pointed out it will reduce levels of waste in the healthcare sector and lower costs, as well as help the organisations make medicines simpler to access, more affordable and safer.
The enterprise remains focused on closing gaps in treatment, as well as formulary and channel management, Mr Paz declared.
Express Scripts was founded in 1986 and is based in St Louis, although it operates throughout the US and Canada, handling millions of prescriptions annually.
