Regulators to vote on NYSE Euronext and the Deutsche Boerse merger
Regulators are to vote on the proposed merger between NYSE Euronext and the Deutsche Boerse.
Negotiation techniques may be used by NYSE Euronext and Deutsche Boerse, as European Union national competition regulators will vote on proposals by competition commissioner Joaquin Almunia to block a merger between the two cases.
Reuters reports that this will occur tomorrow (January 17th), with insiders on the case telling the news source that this could result in some of the arguments against the merger being fine-tuned.
However, after this happens, Deutsche Boerse and NYSE Euronext can still use negotiation strategies before the final binding vote takes place, which is expected to occur on February 1st.
It is thought that the recommendations made by Mr Almunia will be backed.
"There are one or two commissioners who will make a signal that it is not a good idea but they are not really fighting for it," a person familiar with the case was quoted by the publication as saying.
Chief executives of the NYSE Euronext and Deutsche Boerse, respectively Duncan Niederauer and Reto Francioni, are to meet with businesspeople at the World Economic Forum in the near future, Reuters recently claimed.
