Hotel firm in new building acquisition
A major hotel group has completed an acquisition that will enable it to expand a five-star hotel in central Manchester.
The Edwardian Group has completed the business negotiations to buy the vacant Theatre Royal Building in Manchester from property firm Benmore.
It stands next door to Edwardian's existing Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel and opens up the opportunity to expand the five-star hotel, the Business Desk reports.
In a statement, the new owners of the property said: "Edwardian Group, London will work with Manchester City Council and English Heritage in developing plans for the commercial use of the site which will include restoring elements of this potentially fine building."
The Theatre Royal opened in 1845, although it was later converted to become a cinema and in later years has been used as a bingo hall and more recently, a nightclub.
Other hotel acquisitions include the recent purchase of the Judge's Lodge in York by brewer Thwaites and the Hyatt Regency Birmingham by the Hyatt Hotels Corporation, the latter move occurring after the four-star hotel went into administration.
