Partners at law firm Kennedys are set to vote this week on a proposed merger with specialist insurance law firm Simpson & Marwick.
The move would enable Kennedys, which currently has offices in London and Newcastle, to gain a presence in Scotland, via the Simpson & Marwick offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and East Lothian.
However, business negotiations are still ongoing and a deal on the proposed merger of the firms is still some way off, according to The Lawyer Magazine.
It revealed a source at Simpson & Marwick had told it "any news of a merger is greatly exaggerated", but a source at Kennedy's was more positive, stating: "I don't think it's a done deal yet but it soon will be."
Law firms who have completed merger and acquisition business this month include Irwin Mitchell, which recently completed its purchase of field agency PDP Management Services after receiving the approval of the Solicitors Regulatory Authority.
