A trio of Wisconsin dairy co-operatives are set to merge next month as long as their memberships vote to approve the deal.
Business negotiations have been concluded to fix a deal between Family Dairies USA, Manitowoc Milk Producers Cooperative and Milwaukee Cooperative Milk Producers, which would form a new firm called FarmFirst Cooperative.
Of the three, the longest-established is Milwaukee Cooperative Milk Producers, which was established in 1916.
Speaking to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, Family Dairies USA general manager David Cooper said: "This is a unique opportunity for all of us to find new efficiencies, which in turn will allow us as a unified group, to offer more services to our members."
The combined firm would be one of the largest milk producers in the midwest.
Last month saw the creation of the UK's largest dairy producer when Arla Foods Amba and Milk Link joined forces.
The pair had a combined turnover of £2 billion.
