EC green-lights proposed acquisition by Tech Data Europe
The EC has approved Tech Data Europe's plans to take over the distribution operations of Specialist Computer Holdings.
Tech Data Europe's planned acquisition of the IT products distribution business operated by Specialist Computer Holdings has been given the go-ahead by the European Commission (EC).
The EC had been examining the planned move to ensure it did not break European merger regulations and has concluded the deal would not result in unfair competition across European markets.
It found the two parties will "continue to face a number of competitors" across the European Economic area, in particular the UK, France and the Netherlands.
The regulatory approval means merger and acquisition consultants acting for both parties can push on with completing the deal, which will see the US company acquire several distribution firms operated by Specialist Computer Holdings for a total of £220 million.
Commenting on the move last month, European general counsel for Tech Data Norbert Sourek explained the acquisition "strengthens Tech Data's enterprise business, Azlan, as well as expanding its vendor and customer portfolios in Europe".
