Qontext bought by Autodesk
Autodesk has acquired Qontext.
Autodesk has acquired Qontext from Indian firm Pramati Technologies.
While sales negotiations would have been used to determine the price of Qontext's development team and technology, the financial terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.
Purchasing Qontext should speed up Autodesk's move towards the cloud and improve its social capabilities.
Autodesk provides personal and professional 3D design, entertainment and engineering software, working with firms in sectors including the building, architecture, manufacturing and digital art industries.
The last 17 winners of the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects used software, communities, cloud services or mobile apps from Autodesk to realise and deliver their ideas.
Pramati develops independent firms by focusing on well-defined and profitable markets such in mobile, cloud computing and social technologies, with some of its other companies including Imaginea and SocialTwist.
Senior vice-president of information modelling and platform products at Autodesk Amar Hanspal said: "It was great to work with the team at Pramati who have demonstrated a great capability in incubating disruptive businesses."
